Are you getting ready to look for a new job in the marketing industry? Or you may already have your dream job, but before applying for it, you want to make sure you do everything you need to get it. Then you absolutely must remember to create a cover letter! See how to create a professional marketing cover letter, with which you will increase your chances of getting the position you have in mind.

What is a cover letter?

A cover letter is a document that accompanies your resume when you apply for a job. Its purpose is to introduce you to the employer and explain why you are the best candidate for the job.

You can think of a cover letter as an expansion of your resume. In a CV, you actually put dry facts, like a list of your skills or accomplishments. A cover letter will show how your knowledge and experience can be used in the company you are applying to.

A cover letter is a document you can personalize for a specific job advertisement. It is in it that you directly address, for example, a recruiter and try to show them why you are the ideal candidate for the position.

What should be included in a cover letter?

First, your cover letter should contain basic information about you - first name, last name, the position you are applying for, and your contact information.

Then, you should include an introduction in which you briefly introduce yourself

Now you can go into detail. At this point, you should show why you care about working for a particular position and a particular company. You should also indicate why you are the ideal candidate

At the very end, there should be a conclusion summarizing the letter and a call to action (e.g., making contact). Here, too, should be the signature of the letter's author.

 Cover letter vs. resume

A resume is a document that outlines your qualifications, including your work experience, education, and skills. A cover letter is a letter that accompanies your resume and introduces you to the employer.

What is the purpose of a cover letter?

The purpose of a cover letter is to introduce yourself and explain why you are interested in a particular position. It should also highlight your skills and experience that are relevant to the job. The cover letter shows why you should be chosen over other candidates.

Cover letter for a marketer - why should you have one?

A cover letter is an essential tool for a marketer. It can help you stand out from the crowd, show your personality, and demonstrate your interest in the company you are applying to.

A well-written cover letter will show that you have the skills and experience necessary for the job and that you are a good fit for the company. It will also give the employer a chance to learn more about you and to decide if you are someone they would like to interview.

2. Positions you're applying for

3. Your Phone number

4. Your Email Adress

5. Name of the person you are writing to

8. Company address

Who should you address in your letter? Browse the website of the company you want to apply to and its Linkedin. You should find information about the company's employees, including the HR department.

3. Cover letter: Opening

This part is a kind of introduction in which you should introduce yourself in more detail. Tell what you do or have done professionally. Briefly introduce your experience in the marketing industry. So this part includes:

2. Briefly tell about your experience

4. Cover letter: Middle paragraphs

This is the place where you should give specifics. Ideally, you should refer to the requirements in the job advertisement. Example:

Requirement - at least 2 experience in running marketing campaigns

Your answer - For over three years, I was responsible for running marketing campaigns, including creating a mailing campaign, increasing social media visibility, and supervising re-branding.

Be sure to include specific achievements and results in this section that support your skills and experience. You can present your experience based on the formula: the project = result. Example:

→ Thanks to the mailing campaign I organized, my client increased conversions on his site by 30%.

In this part of the letter, you should also tell why you are applying for this particular position. You may have been encouraged to do so by one of the marketing campaigns that this company conducted that caught your attention. Or it could be a company whose work you've admired for some time and have always dreamed of becoming a part of. Go for authenticity, and don't try to give false or misrepresented reasons that made you apply for the position.

To summarize the content of this section:

1. Refer to the requirements from the job advertisement

2. Present your experience supported by results/achievements

3. State your reasons for applying for the position

5. Cover letter: Closing

At the very end of your cover letter, place a call to action. You can express your openness to meet and discuss your candidacy in more detail. Example:

→ I'm open to a call where we can discuss my application in more detail.

So what, in a nutshell, should be in the closing section of a cover letter?

1. Call to action

6. Cover letter: Signature

Include your signature at the very end of the cover letter. You can simply write your name or include your electronic signature.

Some people put their contact information here again, but if you have already done it at the very beginning, there is no need to do it again. In summary - the end of the cover letter includes the following:

1. Signature

*2. Contact information
